The 8th of August: Hotel Metropolitan Celebrated with Legends

RUX was honored to support Paducah’s 8th of August celebration through a supporting partnership with Hotel Metropolitan. This year we were able to support the Upper Town Heritage Foundation in their effort to bring 25 Kentuckians who were impacted by the Mayfield tornado, in December 2021, on a trip to Paducah for the Hotel Metropolitan's Murder Mystery Dinner. Along with dinner, guests enjoyed meeting the legends: Duke Wade, the former road manager of Ray Charles; Majorie Marshall, The Real Songbird of the South; and Samuel Hawkins, Civil Rights activist.

The Hotel Metropolitan has been an important partner in the development of RUX, and served as a RUX host partner in Paducah in 2015 and 2016. Many RUX members first learned about the tradition of the 8th of August celebration while visiting the Hotel Metropolitan. We are grateful for the opportunity to support Hotel Metropolitan’s annual August 8th event and appreciate our RUX partnership with Mrs. Betty Dobson.

The Hotel Metropolitan, part of the chitlin circuit, housed many great African American thinkers, performers, and icons. To book a tour, please call: 270-994-1783.

To donate to the Hotel Metropolitan, please make your checks payable to the Upper Town Heritage Foundation 724 Oscar Cross Ave. Paducah, KY 42003. Thank you for your support!
