Did you know that Kentucky bluegrass is a rhizome?

In botany, a rhizome is an underground stem capable of growing roots and producing shoots.

Inspired by our partners at Alternate ROOTS, we’re transplanting the concept of “rhizomes” to Kentucky, but instead of self propagating networks of plants, we’re using the term as a metaphor for member-led organizing of RUX experiences in regions across the state.

RUX rhizomes offer our members the chance to connect with other alumni, members, and partners in their home regions through meet ups and experiences organized by and for their fellow network members. Assisted by RUX Regional Coordinators and supported by funding from RUX, these meetup-style events are organized across six Kentucky regions: Central KY, Eastern KY, Louisville, Northern KY, Southern KY, and Western KY

Rhizomes experiences include coffee meetups, picnics, local walks or hikes, museum tours, community events, and more. Within and across rhizomes, the RUX network is fostering grassroots support and participation in RUX’s mission & values.

Where you are:

We are looking for 1 Regional Coordinator in each of the following regions: Central KY, Eastern KY, Louisville, Northern KY, Southern KY, Western KY

What you’ll do:

Help grow RUX in your region by inviting and coordinating events created by and for the RUX network.
Regional Coordinators will:

  • Invite individuals & organizations in your region to plan & participate in the regional RUX Rhizomes (events) and attend statewide RUX events.

  • Help local RUX members coordinate + budget 3 rhizomes in your region during a 6-month period (April–October). (We’ll give you a handy two-page guide to help!)

  • Send RUX staff photos and info on event attendance so we can shout y’all out on socials.

  • Promote joining the RUX Membership Program by communicating benefits and our broader program components.

  • Live RUX’s mission & values every day!

Compensation & Budget:

  • Regional Coordinators will receive a $50/month stipend for up to 6 months ($300 total).

  • Each region receives a $250 event planning budget every 6 months.
