PA Humanities launches RUX-inspired fellowship
We’re excited to amplify the news of our partners at PA Humanities, who launched the Pennsylvania Cultural Exchange (PaX) in Pittsburgh last weekend alongside artists, storytellers, historians, educators, organizers, scholars, librarians, filmmakers, and other cultural leaders from across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
PA Humanities announced its inaugural class of 50 PaX Fellows earlier this month. They will each receive generous fellowship stipends and be supported to participate in an 18-month statewide exchange designed to strengthen Pennsylvania’s humanities and creative network. These immersive cultural exchanges will be hosted across three Pennsylvania regions (Pittsburgh, the PA Wilds, and York). Over the course of the PaX fellowship, each participant will gain knowledge and experience from peers while bringing new perspectives, connections, and approaches back to their own communities.
PaX is close to our hearts, as it was inspired by Kentucky RUX and developed in partnership with Art of the Rural and RUX leaders. The program has been shaped by a team of advisors, including Art of the Rural Exchange Director Savannah Barrett and RUX leaders. Over the past few years, Savannah also served as an advisor and facilitator for their 2023-2024 Wingspan grant program, which supported BIPOC-led and serving or rural organizations doing community-based humanities work.
PaX is made possible through the support of Spring Point Partners and The Heinz Endowments, with additional support from Pennsylvania state legislators, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).
